Blank Verse is a series of images inspired by the human desire to delve into the depths of another’s inner world and uncover its truths. Recognising the interconnected nature of our perceptions and the intricate complexity of sensory experience, with the eyes being only one of the many organs, I reflect on empathy, pondering the concept of emotional landscapes and how our encounters with them influence our understanding and capacity to connect.
I also consider factors hindering clear vision, like the struggle for separateness from others or the tendency to turn inward, shutting out external reality for an internal, rigidly controlled one. The images convey paradoxical approaches to truth, demonstrating methods unlikely to lead us to it. Is it truth we seek to feel balanced, or unveiling lies that make us question our senses? Do we search for the journey, or from eternal existential unease? Is it, in fact, ourselves we seek in others?
My metaphorical, poetic photographic approach does not provide objective information but a gentle voice to these questions. I transform the inward dive into a precious collection of emotional elements, aligning the photographic process with the philosophical definition of ‘poiein’, the act of creation. Through archetypes and references to the unconscious, the images illustrate the deeply personal gesture of seeking through observing, making and sharing, hoping to foster unique dialogues and contact zones. May, in resonant moments, visual stimuli align something valuable within us and illuminate pathways of connection.
